One Laptop and wikiHow

I've just read some truly amazing news that wikiHow has been chosen as one of the partners for the amazing "One Laptop per Child" project (link). Fifty or so universally suitable wikiHow articles (so not my sublime How to Be a Guitar Hero then) will be placed on every single one of those laptops (translated into the relevent language). That means that some very helpful, amusing, entertaining instructions will be given to millions of the world's most deprived children. An additional one thousand articles will be available through some sort of download system. It begs belief, and really makes me proud that I've had anything to do with wikiHow. Additionally, and unsuprisingly, Wikipedia and a few other content providers will also have some content provided - especially in the case of wikipedia, probably a good few more articles too.
For those who don't know, the One Laptop for every Child project aims to do exactly that - provide every single child in developing countries with a laptop of learning resources to aid their education. Each laptop costs $100 to produce, and will be researched and produced by western countries, and sold to the governments who can then give it to pupils individually. It is planned that 100 million children will benefit from this scheme. Read the FAQ too.

That was quick

I didn't expect Scan to be that quick - top kudos for customer service! It was sent off yesterday afternoon, and 24 hours later, they'd already recieved it, tested it, found it to be faulty, and authorised a replacement to be sent off... tomorrow morning! Which means I'll get it by Thursday, which is a lot less downtime than I ever really expected.

It's given me an opportunity to play Darwinia tonight too. I'd forgotten how engrossing and emotional it is, the world is sooo engrossing.

No computer

Waahh... It's a very painful thing to lose a computer for a week. The mobo/case has been RMAd because it refused to post if the second RAM slot was filled. I hope that the replacement will be a V3, so I can fill it with a FX-60 ^^
